Christmas print blanket

Have been working on a blanket/ quilt for Jim' s mom. Im going to try to back it with a flannel blanket. $3.88 at Walmart. 2 yds of flannel would of cost me $20. And after watching many real quilters on YouTube, I have come to the conclusion that following quilt patterns might be better than home- made?
